21 Movie is about a MIT Blackjack Card Counting Team as depicted in the famous book by Ben Mezrich, "Bringing Down the House". Ben Mezrich also wrote a second book entitled, "Busting Vegas: the MIT Whiz Kid Who Brought the Casinos to Their Knees". Both books talk about MIT Card Counters. Their were two MIT Teams, the Amphibians and the Reptiles. Semyon Dukach was the inspiration for the second book. Jeffrey Ma is the real name for Ben Campbell / Kevin Lewis in the 21 movie and actually did a cameo appearance in the movie as a Planet Hollywood blackjack dealer. Mike Aponte is the real name for Steve Fisher / Jacob Pitts in the 21 movie. He now runs the Blackjack Institute which teaches card counting along with MIT Card Counting Team member David Irvine. The character Mickey Rosa played by Kevin Spacey is actually a composite of two actual MIT Team players, Johnny Chang and J.P. Massar, more commonly known as Mr. M . Other MIT Blackjack Team members consisted of Richard Chen, David Layton and Andy Bloch. Griffin Investigations, the once leading casino surveillance company, at one time tracked the MIT team. It took them years to figure out that the players suspected of counting cards were an actual team from MIT. Breaking Vegas, The Takedown and The Real Hustle are some other good TV series about cheating casinos. |
